SAMS Comments on Shortages of Flu-fighting Pharmaceuticals

WASHINGTON, D.C., November 21, 2022 – The Securing America’s Medicines and Supply (SAMS) Coalition expressed concern over persisting pharmaceutical shortages, now including generic drugs American patients rely upon to combat the common flu.

Generic drugs, which represent roughly 90 percent of all medications dispensed or administered, often go into shortage due to an overreliance on foreign manufacturing sources. Over 120 drugs are currently experiencing shortages according to the FDA.

“American patients should be able to count on a steady supply of essential pharmaceuticals to treat widespread diseases such as colds, RSV, and the flu,” David Sanders, Executive Director of SAMS, stated. “There should be a safe, reliable supply of medicines and medical products for Americans, made here or in allied countries.”
