SAMS Applauds House Ways & Means Committee Hearing on Drug Shortages

WASHINGTON D.C., February 13 2024 — Securing America’s Medicines and Supply (SAMS), a multi-industry coalition of companies with the mission to strengthen the security of the United States medical supply chain, issued the following statement in support of last week’s House Ways & Means (W&M) Committee hearing on drug shortages:

“SAMS commends Chairman Smith and Ranking Member Neal for a substantive and bipartisan hearing on addressing drug shortages,” said David Sanders, SAMS Executive Director.

“From hospitals in rural parts of our country to the independent pharmacies in our cities and small towns, patients are experiencing the prolonged impact of drug shortages. There is an inextricable link between shortages of essential generic medicines and the resilience of our Nation’s supply chain. SAMS has always advocated for a multi-prong solution that includes domestic investments to reshore production, tax and trade reforms, and reimbursement incentives – including the bipartisan American Made Pharmaceuticals (AMP) Act.”

“It is clear now more than ever that we need a CHIPS-style approach for the American medical supply chain,” Sanders said. “The Committee’s attention and leadership on this issue is applauded by SAMS and its membership.”
